Wildbiene + Partner – A mission with history

Our journey began in 2012 at ETH Zurich. There, Dr. Claudio Sedivy conducted research on wild bees. Together with co-founder and R&D pioneer Tom Strobl, they developed a concept combining science, design, and impact—founding the ETH spin-off Wildbiene + Partner.

Our Milestones:

• 2012: Start of wild bee research at ETH Zurich
• 2013: Founding of Wildbiene + Partner, ImpactHub Fellowship for a Green Economy (1st place)
• 2014 Swiss Sustainability Award (2nd place)
• 2015: Launch of our wild bee care program
• 2017: Training of the first AI models for nest detection
• 2018: Innosuisse Scale-up Label
• 2021: 100,000 BeeHome units sold
• 2025: Launch of the beta version of the MyBeeHome app

What started as an idea has become a movement with over 170'000 supporters in Switzerland and Germany.

Why wild bees? Why now?

Over 75% of flying insects have already disappeared. Wild bees are hit especially hard—even though they help secure more than one-third of our food supply. They are what ecologists call a "keystone species", vital to entire ecosystems.

At the same time, people want to take action:

Studies show that more than 70% of Europeans are willing to actively support nature and biodiversity—but many lack a clear, effective way to do so.

On top of that, regulatory pressure is increasing. Companies are being pushed to disclose and reduce their impact on biodiversity.

While public attention focuses on crises, markets, and tech trends, the biodiversity crisis continues—largely unnoticed.

We aim to change that. To bring nature back into focus.

Our next step: the MyBeeHome app, creating a new dimension of experiencing nature. Using our proprietary AI, the app identifies which wild bee species are nesting—and gives personalised tips on turning any outdoor space into a blooming mini-oasis.

Those who support wild bees develop a deeper understanding of nature. Wild bees are indicators of environmental health. When we support them, we strengthen our own habitats.

With our sustainably and locally produced BeeHome, we give wild bees a home again—and with the new MyBeeHome app, that home becomes smart.

The app uses AI to detect which wild bee species are active and provides tailored advice on how to make outdoor spaces even more nature-friendly. The collected data can also be used across Europe—for research, ESG reporting, and biodiversity policy-making.

Every BeeHome becomes an interactive learning hub for nature. Even more attractive—for people, companies, and the future.

Community Is everything

Without our community, we wouldn’t exist. Over 170'000 people in Switzerland and Germany are part of the movement. Every year, more than 18'000 people in Switzerland send their BeeHome back our BeeCare —a sign of deep trust and long-term connection.

Our next shared goal: doubling the number of buzzing oases by 2029.

Our vision: With over 110'000 additional BeeHomes by 2029, we will enable the transformation of at least 60'000 balconies and gardens into flourishing, biodiversity-promoting habitats. Profitability in 18 months, forecast for 2026: CHF 4 million in sales, followed by a gradual European rollout.
