OOMNIUM: Why did you decide to do another round with OOMNIUM?
Kevin Schmid: We need fresh capital to continue growing and to turn our plans into reality. For us, it was immediately clear that we wanted to involve the public and our crowd again—this brings us tremendous value. It allows us to strengthen our community and give many people the chance to be part of our vision.
O: You exceeded all the goals you set in the last funding round. Do you always move at this pace?
K.S.: Yes, at the moment, we’re continuing at this pace. We need to make sure our team can keep up and that we have the necessary resources in place. A lot of this is happening in parallel—we're also putting a lot of focus on structure. Profitability isn’t our top priority right now; instead, it’s all about building solid structures and scaling in a way that lays the foundation for a long-term, stable company.
O: What’s one key takeaway from your first round that you’d want to share with other founders?
K.S.: Things never go quite as planned :) You have to be aware that a large community also comes with a big responsibility—legal processes, for example, need to be well thought through so everything runs smoothly and is set up properly. It’s also important to communicate openly and transparently with all shareholders several times a year.
O: What exactly are your plans for the capital?
K.S.: We want to open new locations, hire for strategically important roles, and build a production facility. That alone will cost more than CHF 2 million. But there are different financing methods we’re combining to create the big picture.
O: You run the company together. What’s it like making decisions 24/7 as a team—and do you always agree?
K.S.: We don’t always agree, but we trust each other’s expertise. When we disagree, we find a way to reach alignment. We have clearly defined roles for who is responsible for what—except when it comes to marketing, where we’re both deeply involved. When you have a strong vision and mission, most decisions become easier—you just ask yourself whether a choice brings you closer to that vision and aligns with your values.
O: Where do you see Bakery Bakery in 10 years?
K.S.: In 10 years, Bakery Bakery will have around 30 locations in Switzerland and 2 to 5 abroad. We’ll have a strong community and be profitable. By then, growth will likely have slowed a bit so we can consolidate and continue expanding at a slower, more sustainable pace.
